April 6 - April 10, 2020

By the end of this week students should be able to understand the concept of assessment for learning, assessment of learning and assessment for evaluation through:

  • discussing different types of assessment; and
  • critically analyzing the characteristics of Validity, Reliability, Impact, and Practicality of assessment.
During this week, students will begin the Unit 4 as listed in the course outline. They will perform the following activities to accomplish the planned objectives.

Activity 1:
Read the handout Types of Assessment and outline the purpose of different types of assessment. Make a comment on the post entitled ' Purpose of Assessment'.
Activity 2:
Go through the Instructor's Presentation on Assessment in Education and in groups prepare one question each to evaluate the V.R.I.P of an assessment paper. Save your product in the form of a picture and share with the instructor via email by April 8, 2020
Your responses will be uploaded on the blog and your peers will provide a reflective feedback on your work.
Activity 3:
Read your peers' responses (on the blog) and provide a reflective feedback to them.
Activity 4:
After the mini-lecture conducted by the instructor, skim through the handout Structured and Constructed Response Assessment and explore at least two limitations of each.
Be ready to share your findings with your classmates on a Coggle.

  1. Purpose of Assessment:
As I've read out these types of assessments I came to a point that each type covers specific region that can help us to make a final report.
Diagnostic assessment is basically the 1st step wehere you discover the capabilities of students to start the process.
Summative assessment helps to make a judgement at different stages.
Formative assessment is basically to monitor individuals.
Informal assessment collects data by interacting with individuals to know how much knowledge they have for a specific thing and formal assessment collets data py their practical work.
According to my point of view these are the purpose of these different types.

DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT: The beginning assessment of students that determines student’s individual strength, interest, weakness and level of achievements.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT: The end assessment of participant’s achievements where it focusses on outcomes.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT: Monitoring of student throughout the course or on day to day learning experience to provide meaningful feedback.

INFORMAL ASSESSMENT: Observing students from their behavior in class and interacting with them so they can tell what they know or understand about the topic.

FORMAL ASSESSMENT: Using specific assessment strategies like exams, presentations, projects etc. to determine their capabilities. Something that is marks related or something with a proper channel.
