  1. Fareeha nayab: basically the purpose of assessment is to asses students how well they are familiar with the topic or after studying to assess whether they are able to grasp the concept with the following teaching method, if teacher assess something is not working they can change their teaching style or method according to that. After assessment it is easy for a teacher and student to overcome their weaknesses and work harder.

The sole purpose of the assessments is to check the progress of students and to see whether the learning objectives are fulfilled or not. The assessments are carried out to assess both the learning of students and the teaching of teachers via quizes, presentations, assignments, feedbacks, observation ,interaction with students etc.It is done to see what are the student's interests and what they have learned or gained so far .Assessments are a way for teachers to know whether the students have accomplished the learning outcomes or not .It enables and help teachers to improve their teaching skills more and to overcome the missing things and improve their way of teaching in future.

Assessments help teachers and students keep track of progress. Among the different types of assessments, a diagnostic assessment helps the teacher get to know their students’ abilities better, which can then aid in planning and execution of the study material. A formative assessment helps the teacher monitor the students’ progress, whether they are keeping up with coursework, whether the teaching methodology is working for the students, and point out any weak links that can be improved. A summative assessment provides concrete evidence for student progress and can measure their achievement as well as the effectiveness of the teaching methods.

  4. Serene Angel Sohail: Assessment is the process of gathering information to assess whether the learning objectives are being met, and to keep track of the students progress. Assessments are carried out multiple times during the learning process to make sure that the learning methodology and it's outcomes are in line with the intended learning objectives. These assessments can help teachers plan, assess, and adapt their teaching methods to best suit their students so that optimum results are achieved. At the start of a course, a teacher could use formal or informal diagnostic assessment to asses the existing level of knowledge and skill, so that they can plan a teaching methodology that works best with the students present level of achievement. During the course, they would use Formative assessment to keep track of the student's day to day progress, to see if they are heading in the right direction, and to provide constructive feedback to help them best achieve the intended learning outcomes. At the end of a course, a Summative assessment such as an exam or a presentation would help the teacher establish whether the student has achieved the intended learning outcomes or if they have failed to do so,make them retake the course. Such summative assessments would also help the teacher to make further amendments to the program to make it more effective for future students.

Assessments are not only used for students. They can be used in daily life too. It is basically to check that whether a particular person has achieved their respective goal or not. For e.g. to check that if a person has achieved the desired weight by going to gym. He or she can assess by making a monthly assessment report. This one is known as diagnostic assessment. Just like this formative assessment is used to check the process of the students which is usually made by the teachers. It tells that whether the students are grasping the knowledge and concepts or not. This can also help teachers to improve themselves and can look on the places where they are lacking in teaching. Summative assessments kind of sums up the whole things that is the goal been achieved or not. If the goal is not achieved the teachers then decide that should the kid retake the class or not. Informal assessments determine that how much of the concepts did the student has understand that can be in form of taking feedbacks, group work presentation and formal assessments is done by taking exams or report.

    Diagnostic assessment
The purpose is to gather specific data to help plan a child's specific learning path. This assessment is used to collect data on what students already know about the topic. Diagnostic assessments are sets of written questions (multiple choice or short answer) that assess a learner’s current knowledge base or current views on a topic/issue to be studied in the course. The goal is to get a snapshot of where students currently stand - intellectually, emotionally or ideologically - allowing the instructor to make sound instructional choices as to how to teach the new course content and what teaching approach to use.
    Summative assessment
The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. Summative assessments are often high stakes, which means that they have a high point value (e.g. midterm, final exam). Information from summative assessments can be used formatively when students or faculty use it to guide their efforts and activities in subsequent courses.
    Formative assessment
The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. Formative assessment help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work. It also helps faculty recognize where students are struggling and address problems immediately.

The primary purpose of assessment is to improve students' learning and teachers' teaching. Assessment alerts the students to their present position, makes them well aware of their present goal and gives them understanding of how to close any gaps between their learning. It also monitors the students' progress. Diagnostic assessments assess the students' prior knowledge about a specific subject and traces a road map for the instructor about what should be given more importance while teaching. Summative assessments evaluate the students at the end of a term by comparing it with a standard. The examples include a mid-term, final exam, research paper or a senior recital. Formative assessment monitors students learning to provides ongoing feedback to improve both students' learning as well as teachers' teaching. For example drawing concept map for the understanding of a specific topic, submission of one or two sentences identifying the lecture's main idea.

Assessments are a very important part of learning because it shows how well the student is gaining knowledge. It also determines the course of action for the teacher. When the instructor knows which method of teaching and assessment works best for the student, they can modify their teaching strategies. It also helps them to understand what concepts the student has understood so they can build on them accordingly. A diagnostic assessment can help the teacher to form a lesson plan according to the abilities of the students. A summative assessment can help the instructor to measure where the student is lacking and help them accordingly. Meanwhile, a formative assessment helps the instructor to keep a formal record. An informal assessment can help the teacher realize the potential in students while they are engaging and are not pressured by the idea of measurement. Lastly, a formal assessment can help them to quantify what the student has learnt.

The primary purpose of assessment is to improve the learning of students and teaching methods of the instructors. The results getting from the assessment both teachers and students will help them to determine what can be their next step to improve their teaching and learning skills. There are different types of assessments, but every type of assessment has been designed for some kind of improvement in the field of teaching or learning. An assessment will also help an instructor to keep the record of the achievements and improvements of students the whole year so if any student is lacking something they will help in getting improved.

motivation behind evaluation is to asses understudies how well they know about the theme or subsequent to concentrating to survey whether they can get a handle on the idea with the accompanying showing strategy, if instructor survey something isn't working they can change their training style or technique as indicated by that. After appraisal it is simple for an educator and understudy to beat their shortcomings and work harder.

Assessments help the instructors to know about their student’s ability and achievements and keep the record of them. Some assessments are designed for initial period, few are used to judge the whole performance throughout the year, few are day to day base assessments. So basically the purpose of the assessments are to get the knowledge about the curriculum design, students performances and teaching practices.

Assessment is a tool that teachers can use to measure the competence and learning of students and the effectiveness of their teaching methods. The assessment/evaluation process has to be valid and reliable. There are 3 main types of assessment and each has their own benefits.
    Diagnostic assessment
This assessment is done at the beginning of a session or class to measure the competence of the student. This helps teacher get a better idea of where their students are and how much effort she has to put in. This also helps teachers plan better teaching methods that fit the needs of the students.
    Summative assessment
This is done at the end of the session or class to measure the learning of the students. This helps the teacher assess the effectiveness of her teaching methods. The teacher can add and remove things to make it more effective. This also helps students revise things.

    Formative assessment
These are day to day assessment, these help to assess the day to day progress of students and teacher. They can be formal like Tests or presentations or they could be informal like oral quizzes.

Evaluations are a very critical part of learning as they demonstrate how well the student learns knowledge. This also decides the Teacher's course of action. Once the teacher is aware of which teaching and evaluation approach works better for the student, they will change their teaching techniques. This also makes them understand what the student knows so that they can draw on them accordingly. A diagnostic test will help the instructor form a lesson plan according to the students abilities. A summative appraisal may assist the professor in assessing where the student is lacking and then he/she will guide them appropriately. A formative evaluation tells the professor preserve a standardized record. An informal assessment will help the instructor understand the potential of students when they are participating and are not under pressure from the concept of measuring. Finally, a standardized assessment will help them measure what the student has learned

Assessment comes from the term ‘’assess’’ in Latin which means to sit with the learner. It implies it is a procedure which is made for the students to teach them in a way that increases their knowledge. The different kinds of assessment can help you set that one end goal which will act as a basic guideline throughout your teaching course. 1. Diagnostic Assessment: It helps teacher understand the strength and weakness of his students beforehand. This assessment helps instructor measure a student’s current knowledge or skills for the purpose of identifying a suitable program for learning. 2. Summative Assessment: The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of the term by comparing it against some standard. This may not be a very good method to judge indepth learning.3. Formative Assessment: The goal of formative assessment is to monitor students and continuously provide them feedback which will help them to keep improving throughout the term4. Formal Assessment: It assesses students through traditional methods like quizzes, essays, presentations. This is the most commonly used type of assessment to grade a student’s knowledge.5. Informal Assessment: Informal assessment helps obtaining information about learner without giving them any hardcore standardize tests.

  22. Syeda Airas Burhan: The purpose of assessment is to gather information to understand the extent of the student's learning and to assess to what extent they can apply what they have learnt. Unlike evaluation, assessment is an on-going process. It can be both formal and informal.
Diagnostic Assessment - assess the prior knowledge of students and also highlights their comfort level, abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Helps teacher mould the lessons and teaching methodology to ensure maximize student learning.
Summative Assessment - reflects the level of understanding of the student. Helps figure out the extent to which the learning objectives have been met successfully.
Formative Assessment - in-process evaluation that helps keep an eye on the student's progress. Highlights the student's strengths and the areas which need more focus.

The purpose of assesment, according to me, is to inform students of their progress. Affective assesment provides students with the sense of what they know pf a subject nd what they do not. Also the feedback helps them improve their performance. It also helps the instructor to know at what stage the students stands. Assessment is a key part of an educational institute.

Assessment is the systematic manner of recording and using observed data to evaluate knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs. There are various types of assessments:
Diagnostic assessment is usually taken during the start of a unit in order to determine the competency, capacity and effectiveness of students. It can be taken using the standard methods of formal assessments such as IQ and fitness tests. Teachers utilize diagnostic testing data to direct what and how they instruct. They invest more energy encouraging abilities students battled with most on the demonstrative test. Diagnostic evaluations can be a useful device for guardians. The input children get on these tests tell them the particular regions where they may require additional assistance at home
Summative assessments are used as a checkpoint at the end of the year or course to assess how much content students learned overall. It aids in reviewing student achievements at various apt points during the course of study. It can be tested using formal methods of measuring learning outcomes such as projects and presentations.
Formative assessment is often viewed as more of a natural part of the teaching and learning process. It can include strategies such as observations, having students read out loud, and asking students questions in class. This kind of testing is utilized to check students getting the hang of concepts during the class. Also it helps instructors in adjusting or expanding their programmes or adjusting their learning and instructing techniques.
Informal assessment involves observing students during class learning, communicating with students, gather an extensive sense of what students understand. It basically involves questioning students, aiding investigations and triggering responses among them.
Formal assessment includes the utilization of explicit evaluation systems to decide how much students have accomplished the learning outcomes. Evaluation systems include setting papers, tests, reports, exhibitions and workshops.

    Diagnostic assessment:
A diagnostic assessment test and measure what the students already learn and understand. This is usually used by teachers when beginning a new course or class. Diagnostic assignment is collections of written questions that determine knowledge of a learner or a current understanding on topic or subject of a student. The goal is to get an instant image of where students are currently standing.
    Summative assessment:
After a course or subject, the summative assessment takes place and tests how well the student learn. Usually at the end of a project, class, course or semester.A summative assessment is used to assess student performance, skills, learning and academic achievements at the end of a educational period.
    Formative assessment:
Formative assessment allows teachers to recognize concepts that students have challenges in understanding, develop skills or not yet attained learning standards. so that changes to teaching, training practices and lesson plans can be made. A formative assessment tracks and measures how well students know during the course or class.
    Formal assessment:
Formal assessments are the systematic, data-based measures that assess what the students learned and how well they learned. Formal tests assess the expertise or competence of the student's content and can be used for comparisons of other benchmarks. Example standardized test
    Informal assessment:
    Informal assessment reflect those
spontaneous types of assessment which can be easily taken which can easily be integrated into everyday classroom practices and activities which evaluate the success and development of the students. Content and results are guided by informal assessments. Example observation.

Assessments are practiced to evaluate student's achievements and outcomes. Diagnostic assessment, Formative assessment, Informal assessment and Formative Assessment. Formative assessment is better way to evaluate students as its a day to day process to evaluate student's performance. Other assessments which are practiced also give positive way to evaluate results but critical observations help out teachers to check and evaluate better learning outcomes. All types of assessments involves evaluation of student's achievements. So assessments helps instructors to monitor student's activities but i believe the quality of assessments should be easy. All tasks and assessments should evaluate students equally.

Assessment is a method used worldwide to track a student’s performance or learning outcomes. Assessment helps to identify how effectively the student grasped the concept taught during class. It also helps to measure the effectiveness of an instructor’s teaching methodology.
Diagnostic assessment is carried out prior to a lecture. It involves formal or informal measurements to assess the capabilities of student(s) in a class & hence, helps an instructor in coming up with a lesson plan accordingly.
Summative assessment can be used to assess students learning outcomes as well as effectiveness of a course and instructor.
Formative assessment helps keep track of a student’s academic performance and learning. The outcome of this assessment can help an instructor in providing feedback to student. An instructor can also modify her/his teaching style based on outcome of formative assessment.
Formal assessment involves standard way of assessing a student’s performance through exams, tests and quizzes etc. Usually marks or grades are given at the end to rank the student. On the other hand informal assessment usually involves more in-class assessment such as judging a student based on his/her attitude in class, involvement during lectures etc.

According to me purpose of assessment is to test the learning ability of a student and understand ability of a student that how much a child have learned and understood.
Purpose of assessment is also one of the ways to know that teacher's way of teaching is right and whatever teacher is teaching to the students they are learning and understanding the knowledge.
Assessments are given to the students to access the I.Q level of students and to know that which student need more attention and care regarding to learning or writing.

    Diagnostic assessment
is conducted for individual students or the entire class at the beginning of a unit or course to understand the skills set. The assessments can be conducted through many different types of tests like an IQ/aptitude or fitness test. This assessment is essentially a method of assessing the skills of an individual or a group of individuals to establish the easiest and most effective method of teaching.
    Summative assessments
are used to assess the progress of an individual or a group of individuals. Not only does this assessment measure the level of achievement of the testing individual or the group of individuals, but it also measures the effectiveness of the program/teaching ability. This is primarily used to evaluate the overall progression of what is being taught and done through the use of tests, presentations and assignments.
    Formative assessment
takes place during the day and or in the middle of a session. This assessment helps evaluate the progress of both the instructor’s teaching methods and the understanding of the material being taught to an individual or a group of individuals. This assessment helps restructure the activity in the moment to ensure effective material is being taught to the receiving end.
    Informal assessment
is very similar to formative assessment in the sense that it occurs during the day and or in the middle of a session. Informal assessment allows the classrooms to present their learning in the form of questions, presentations and feedback. This allows the instructor the ability to observe and monitor student’s progress on an on-going bases to understand the effectiveness of the material being taught.
    Formal assessment
is very similar to summative assessment as it tests the individual or the group of individuals through the use of essays, exams and any practical assessment like a presentation or performance. This assessment is more of a formal test and is graded to show the individual or group of individuals the level of achievement.
